经济学院成立于2013年3月，由原暨南大学金融学教授、博士生导师杨星出任学院首任院长，原华南理工大学经济与金融学院执行院长王仁曾教授任现任院长。学院秉承“自由之思想、独立之人格”的办学宗旨，以“培养专业基础扎实、外语能力强、综合素质高的国际化、应用型、复合型经济类专门人才”为教学理念，并致力于将学院发展为“质量一流、特色鲜明、服务社会”的经济类人才培养和教育基地。其目标是建成中国独立学院“省内一流、国内知名”的高水平经济学科。
学院学科结构完备，专业优势突出。
学院经过十年的发展，目前已形成“五专业两中心一基地”的完备经济学科体系，专业涵盖：经济学、国际经济与贸易、金融工程、经济统计学、税收学，分设十一个专业方向；两大研究中心分别为：“低碳经济与碳金融研究中心”、“粤港澳大湾区财税研究中心”，在实验教学方面，与管理学院共建“经管实验中心”，该中心为广东省实验教学示范中心；同时获批了广东省普通高校人文社科重点研究基地—粤港澳大湾区碳中和金融研究基地。
经济学院的金融工程专业是“中国独立学院5星级专业”、“广东省本科高校教学质量与教学改革工程建设项目特色专业”。其开设的碳金融专业方向是国内第一个本科专业方向。编著了全国首套碳金融系列教学丛书，并获广东省第十届优秀金融科研成果著作类一等奖项。
学院致力于为学生搭建进一步深造的平台，与英国邓迪大学、德国巴特洪堡大学等国外高校开展本硕直通车项目，与华南理工大学经贸学院开展了联合培养金融专业硕士研究生项目。
学院创刊的《绿色金融研究》期刊、《碳金融壹号》公众号也深受欢迎。

学院拥有一支优秀的教师队伍，现有专任教师66名，博士生导师6名、硕士生导师9名、教授6名、副教授17名、讲师34名、助教9名。博士、硕士学位比例占100%，中级以上职称比例占88%。学院教师多次获得广东省哲学社会科学优秀成果一等奖、广东省教学成果一等奖等省、市级重要奖项。已完成国家自然科学基金、社会科学基金项目及政府和企业委托项目共90余项，在国内外重要期刊上发表学术论文140余篇。
学院注重实践创新，优秀人才辈出。
学院现有在校生近1668人，近三年总体就业率达96%以上，20%左右毕业生在世界500强和国内知名企事业单位就职。近三年考研人数为91人，其中国内研究生41人、国(境)外研究生50人，毕业生被国内外知名学府如中国社会科学院大学、华南理工大学、华南师范大学、香港城市大学、悉尼大学、澳大利亚莫纳什大学等高校录取。
学生多次获得国际级、国家级学术竞赛奖项。2021年和2022年荣获中国国际“互联网+”大学生创新创业大赛广东省决赛银、铜奖，2023年荣获中国国际“互联网+”大学生创新创业大赛国赛银、铜奖，2024年荣获中国国际大学生创新大赛国赛铜奖、省赛银奖，2025年荣获中国国际大学生创新大赛国赛银奖、国赛铜奖和两项省赛金奖。2015年—2024年连续荣获“挑战杯”广东省大学生课外学术科技作品竞赛二、三等奖，2025年荣获第十八届“挑战杯”广东省大学生课外学术科技作品竞赛一等奖，2014—2024年连续十一年获得了全国高校商业精英挑战赛一等奖。

School of Economics: Excellence in Education and Innovation
Overview and Vision
Established in March 2013, the School of Economics was inaugurated under the leadership of Professor Yang Xing, a former Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Finance at Jinan University. The School is currently led by Dean Wang Renzeng, former Executive Dean of the School of Economics and Commerce at South China University of Technology. Adhering to the motto of Independent Thinking and Intellectual Freedom, the School is committed to cultivating internationalized, applied, and interdisciplinary economic professionals with solid academic foundations, strong linguistic proficiency, and comprehensive qualities. Our vision is to become a premier educational and research hub, recognized for its high quality, distinctive features, and significant social contributions, aiming to be a top-tier economic discipline among independent colleges in China.
Academic Structure and Distinctive Disciplines
Over the past decade, the School has developed a comprehensive disciplinary system comprising Five Majors, Two Centers, and One Base. Our academic offerings include Economics, International Economics and Trade, Financial Engineering, Economic Statistics, and Taxation, spanning eleven specialized tracks. We host two research centers: the Center for Low-Carbon Economy and Carbon Finance and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Fiscal and Taxation Research Center. In collaboration with the School of Management, we operate the Economics and Management Experimental Center, a designated Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. Furthermore, we are home to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Carbon Neutrality Finance Research Base, a key humanities and social sciences research base for higher education institutions in Guangdong Province.
Our Financial Engineering program is recognized as a 5-Star Major among Chinese Independent Colleges and a Featured Major under the Guangdong Undergraduate Teaching Quality and Reform Project. Notably, our Carbon Finance track is the first of its kind in China. We have authored the nation’s inaugural series of textbooks on carbon finance, which received the First Prize for Outstanding Financial Research Achievements in Guangdong Province. The School also facilitates global academic pathways through direct master’s programs with the University of Dundee (UK) and Bad Homburg University (Germany), as well as a joint master’s program in Finance with the South China University of Technology. Our academic influence is further extended through the Green Finance Research journal and the Carbon Finance No. 1 official WeChat account.
Faculty Excellence
The School boasts a highly qualified and well-structured faculty of 66 full-time members, including 6 doctoral supervisors, 9 master’s supervisors, 6 professors, 17 associate professors, 34 lecturers, and 9 teaching assistants. 100% of our faculty hold doctoral or master’s degrees, and 88% possess intermediate or senior professional titles. Our faculty members have garnered numerous provincial and municipal accolades, including First Prizes for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences and Teaching Achievement Awards in Guangdong. They have successfully completed over 90 national, provincial, and government-commissioned projects and published more than 140 academic papers in prestigious domestic and international journals.
Innovation and Student Achievement
With a student body of approximately 1,668, the School maintains an overall employment rate exceeding 96% over the past three years, with roughly 20% of graduates securing positions in Fortune 500 companies and renowned domestic enterprises. Our graduates are frequently admitted to prestigious institutions such as the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, South China University of Technology, City University of Hong Kong, the University of Sydney, and Monash University.

Innovation Competitions: Multiple awards in the China International Internet+ College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the China International College Students' Internet+ Innovation Competition (2021–2025), including national-level Silver and Bronze medals.
Academic Research: Consecutive awards in the Challenge Cup Guangdong College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, culminating in a First Prize in 2025.
Business Competitions: Eleven consecutive years of First Prizes in the National College Student Business Elite Challenge (2014–2024).

Dedicated to serving society through economic expertise, the School has established an extensive network of 75 off-campus internship and employment bases. Our partners include major financial institutions (e.g., China Construction Bank, Nanhua Futures, China Merchants Securities), high-tech service firms, and research institutes (e.g., China Institute for Climate Change, China Green Finance Institute).
